The transmission is composed of variable speed transmission mechanism and control mechanism. Some cars also have power take-off mechanism. Most transmission mechanisms are driven by ordinary gears, and some are driven by planetary gears. Ordinary gear transmission mechanisms generally use sliding gears and synchronizers.
 
Classification of transmission
 
1. According to the change mode of transmission ratio, the transmission can be divided into three types: staged type, stepless type and comprehensive type.
 
(a) Stepwise transmission: there are several selectable fixed transmission ratios and gear transmission is adopted. It can also be divided into two types: ordinary gear transmission with fixed gear axis and planetary gear transmission with rotating axis of some gears (planetary gears).
 
(b) Stepless transmission: the transmission ratio can change continuously within a certain range. The common ones are hydraulic, mechanical and electric.
 
(c) Integrated transmission: it is composed of stepwise transmission and stepless transmission. Its transmission ratio can be changed steplessly within the range of several segments between the maximum and minimum values.
 
2. According to the control mode, the transmission can be divided into forced control type, automatic control type and semi-automatic control type.
 
(a) Forced control transmission: the driver directly controls the gear lever to shift gears.
 
(b) Automatic transmission: the selection of transmission ratio and gear shift are carried out automatically. The driver only needs to operate the accelerator pedal, and the transmission can control the actuator according to the engine load signal and vehicle speed signal to realize gear change.
 
(c) Semi automatic control transmission: it can be divided into two categories: one is automatic shift of some gears and manual (forced) shift of some gears; The other is to select the gear with the button in advance. When the clutch pedal is pressed or the accelerator pedal is released, the actuator will shift the gear by itself.
